DIY: geek out

So lately i've been seeing a common trend among the many celebs i follow on my instagram, and being the desperate copycat i am, i just had to have it too. Pictured below are Hailey Baldwin, Zoella, Perrie Edwards and Caroline Flack all sporting the same tee from Topshop (and might i say they all look so cool in it). So i went down to buy my own and saw that it waayy too expensive for me, $35 too expensive for a green tee with the GEEK printed on it.

Then i thought might as well put the silkscreen i borrowed *cough cough stole* from school and put it to good use and make my own!

And here is today's DIY tutorial kids!

what i used:
  • mens tee from target for $8 (i prefer mens tees because the sleeves are long enough to fold)
  • silkscreen and squeegee (from school)
  • black fabric paint
  • a pencil knife
  • thread and needle
  • measuring tape
  • a3 paper
  • and tape

1) Create or use an existing image as your template for your design. Make sure it is the exact size you want when printed on the tee
2) Draw and cut out the design using the pencil knife. what i did was i traced the design from the computer screen onto the paper
3) Place the tee on a flat surface and get ready to print. Position the template to the exact position you want on the tee and then place a silkscreen on top
4) Using a spatula knife get some black fabric paint and place it on the silkscreen, hold down the silkscreen and with the squeegee (on a 45 degree angle) drag the paint around so that the template is covered in paint. Make sure all spots have been covered
5) to make the rolled up sleeves, roughly fold your sleeves to the desired look and with an almost identical piece of thread hand stitch it up to secure it. Do it on both sides and then you are done

RESULT= an $8 mens tee from target turned to a cool and trendy tee from topshop

Who said fashion cant be cheap, fun and educational?
